Dear Sir or Madam, During the course of our constant product observation process, MAGURA has detected a potential fault source in part of a production batch affecting our disc brake range MT6 and MT8. The fault could potentially pose a risk to the user. As a result we recommend that you stop using these products with immediate effect. In the few cases where we have experienced this fault it is apparent that a loss of brake pressure can occur when the brake is exposed to very cold temperatures. The safety of our customers is our primary concern and any potential risk to the user due to quality issues, as in this case, leads to an immediate corrective action. As a result we would recommend that all affected brakes are no longer used. We are offering a free of charge replacement option for any potentially involved disk brake systems which are members of the product family MT6 and MT8. Should your brake be affected the brake lever (master cylinder) will be replaced free of charge.
This replacement only applies to a limited number of MT6 and MT8 brakes which can be identified by a production number visible on the brake calliper as shown. All MT6 and MT8 brakes with serial numbers up to 20531 are subject to this replacement action and could potentially be affected. All MT6 and MT8 brakes without a serial number on the calliper could also potentially be affected and will be replaced. MT6/8 brakes with serial numbers higher than 20601 are not affected. All other MT series brakes (MT4, MT2, MTC, MTS and MT Custom) are also not affected. For safety reasons the affected brakes should no longer be used. Please contact your customers through the relevant supply chain and ensure that, as far as is possible, they in turn pass on this information to end customers (where these are known). At the same time we will inform the market through channels such as trade publications, internet portals and our own website.
Explanations of procedure: The customer registers at www.magura.com/mt-replacement (IMPORTANT: The registration cannot be processed until after 06.March 2013 – we would still strongly advise against using the brake during the interim period) and forwards his/her brake to an approved MAGURA-Service-Partner or bicycle shop who will carry out the appropriate changes. The end customer will then receive a reference number and will send the affected brakes (brake lever, hose with fixing screws and caliper) to the chosen dealer or MAGURA service partner directly with the reference number. If you are selected as the dealer and if the end customer has brought the brakes to you, please take the following action: Germany and Austria: Please contact MAGURA Bike Parts GmbH & Co. KG to organise UPS collection of the brakes identified with the reference number. MAGURA Bike Parts GmbH & Co. KG will replace the affected brake levers and will send the completed brakes back to you. This consignment will include one set of MAGURA brake pads per brake as compensation for the end customer and for you as the dealer. United Kingdom, France and Benelux: Please identify the affected brakes with the reference number given to the end customer on registration and then send them (brake lever, hose, clamp, fixing screws and caliper) "free" directly to the MAGURA service partner in your country or contact the service partner to organise collection by UPS. The MAGURA service partner will replace the affected brake levers and will send the complete brakes back to you. This consignment will include one set of MAGURA brake pads per brake as compensation for the end customer and for you as the dealer. Important additional information: Every brake due to be replaced must be registered in advance at www.magura.com/mt-replacement. In the event that the end user/customer has not registered the product in advance for replacement the dealer should action this on behalf of the customer. As we are required by law to ensure that all brake levers are scrapped by MAGURA Bike Parts GmbH & Co. KG, this procedure must be followed. Regardless of any current claims which may exist, we would be grateful if you would return to us any MT6 and MT8 disc brakes originating from the affected batch. These will be replaced free of charge. If MT6 and MT8 disc brakes from the relevant batches have already been fitted to bikes which you still have in stock, we will replace the brake lever for you at no charge. Please send us the entire brake (brake lever with clamp and screws to us). Brake discs and any adapters can remain fitted on the bike. If bikes have already gone to dealers or have been sold to end customers, the same procedure as that for fitted brakes applies. In this case dealers should contact MAGURA Bike Parts GmbH & Co. KG in Bad Urach or a MAGURA service partner directly. The end customer must contact their dealer or MAGURA service partner or, alternatively, get in touch directly with MAGURA Bike Parts GmbH & Co. KG. The brake lever will be exchanged whoever the customer decides to contact. In this case, too, the entire brake - i.e. the brake lever with clamp and screws, hose and brake caliper - must be returned. Brake discs and any adapters can remain fitted on the bike.
